You do not always need a console. Depending on your TV, you can install a compatible game, cast from a phone, connect a controller or use a supported cloud-gaming service.

Can you play Android games on any Smart TV?
Not directly on every model. Android TV and Google TV devices can install compatible TV games from Google Play. Samsung and LG televisions use their own operating systems, so Android apps cannot normally be installed on them like they can on an Android phone or Android TV.
That does not mean Samsung or LG owners are left out. You can often use screen mirroring or casting from a phone, connect a console or streaming device through HDMI, or use a gaming service supported by your exact TV model and country. Availability changes by device, so check your television’s app store and support page before paying for a subscription or controller.
Playing without a controller
Simple puzzle, racing and arcade games may support the directional buttons and select button on your TV remote. Always read the game’s description before installing it. If the listing says “gamepad required,” pair a compatible controller first.
Using a Bluetooth controller
On many Android TV and Google TV devices, open Settings, choose Remotes & Accessories, select Pair accessory and put the controller into pairing mode. Menu names differ by brand. After pairing, test every button inside the game because controller support can vary between titles.
Installing games safely
Start with your TV’s official app store. Avoid unknown APK download sites and do not install a phone app just because it has the same Android name. Phone apps may be unsafe, display incorrectly on a television or be impossible to control without a touchscreen.

Can I install Android APK files on a Samsung or LG TV?
Normally no. Samsung Tizen and LG webOS are different operating systems and do not install Android APK files. Use apps made for your TV, casting or a compatible HDMI device instead.
Why is a game missing from Google Play on my TV?
The game may not support Android TV, your hardware, your country or remote-based controls. A phone app appearing in Google Play does not guarantee that a TV version exists.
